ADVENTURE RACING

How long have you been competing?

With Adventure Racing, since 2008. First experiences from 2001.
With Trail Running / Ultra distances on foot, bike, skis since 2000.
Changed my main sports from Adventure Racing to Sky Running & Trail Running on the end of 2015.

Where do you call home?

Mountains and when there is no access to the mountains, the Baltic Sea with surf ski kayak! =D

Favorite event or place to practice?

Event: Tromso Skyrace or Patagonian Expedition Race, cannot decide.
Place: Lyngen, Norway.

What do you like best about your sport?

People, community and good spirits around the racers, organizers and volunteers.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while doing your sport?

I guess the strangest thing was in 2010 in Patagonian Expedition Race where we were rappelling down on a 100 meters from the cliff and the check point guy installed the descending device wrong way around to the rope (GriGri). It would been a long fall, but luckily my climbing background saved me.

Do you have a claim to fame (fittest, fastest, funniest, smelliest, etc.)?

For coming years I want to grow as a sky running athlete and do my best with to challenge the higher level runners.

Do you promote an annual event or are you involved in a charitable cause?

I am a founder of Helsinki Trail Running Club with 2900 members, and growing.
We promote Finnish Trail Running as a lifestyle and event series like Trail Tour Finland

Any notable recent results?

3rd place in Endurance Quest, Finland 2014.
Finished Tromso Skyrace 2015 in good position.
Lots of podium places in local events on multisport / adventure racing in recent years.

It gives a good impression what this means to go through the everyday routines with having a family with 2 kids, day job and goals that really demands lot of hours with training.
